The Itinerary: A Week You’ll Never Forget
-
We’ll depart from Minneapolis–St. Paul in the afternoon and begin our journey to Kenya.
Touch down in Nairobi around 10 PM. You’ll be met at the airport and taken straight to our hotel for a good night’s rest. -
We’ll head straight to the Maasai Mara, one of Africa’s most iconic safari regions. After settling in, we’ll kick things off with a short evening game drive—just enough time to spot some wildlife and soak in your first Kenyan sunset.
-
An early start means we’ll have the entire day to explore the reserve. Keep your eyes open for lions, elephants, giraffes, and more. In the afternoon, we’ll visit a local Maasai village to learn about the culture and traditions of the people who call this land home.
-
We’ll leave the Mara behind and drive to Lake Naivasha, where we’ll enjoy a peaceful boat ride alongside hippos and water birds. The day winds down as we settle into the beautiful grounds of Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort.
-
After breakfast, we’ll head back to Nairobi. The rest of the day is yours to relax, explore, or recharge. You might visit the Karen Blixen Museum (of Out of Africa fame), take a swim at the hotel pool, or just soak in the rhythm of the city.
-
We begin with a visit to Kibera Town Center, an important hub for youth and innovation, and a walking tour of Kibera guided by William O. You'll see firsthand the vibrant energy of the community.
-
Today is all about the girls. We’ll visit the schools where our Road to Freedom scholars learn and grow, capturing photos and videos as we meet with teachers and students at Chrisco and Green Pastures.
-
Our final day in Kenya is a celebration. We’ll gather with current and former scholars for a picnic lunch in the park. Expect games, laughter, and heartfelt connections—plus plenty of time for portraits and group photos.
-
We’ll head to the airport with full hearts, new friendships, and stories that will stay with us long after we’re home.

The RFS trip to Kenya changed my life and opened my eyes to another world. Our group safari experience far exceeded any expectations I had—we saw an incredible array of African wildlife, and our guides were knowledgeable, wonderful companions. Their insights, combined with the breathtaking beauty of the savannah, made each day on safari exciting and full of surprises.
Meeting the RFS girls and visiting their community was deeply moving and opened my heart in new ways. It was a true privilege to be welcomed into their homes, to meet their families, and to hear their stories—many of which spoke to the very real challenges of life in Kibera. And amidst it all, there was so much joy—sharing laughter and fun activities with the girls as we visited their schools created beautiful moments of connection and hope.
I encourage anyone who is able: go on this trip! You will return inspired by the incredible people you meet and with a deeper sense of gratitude for the life you live.

Visiting the Kibera slum in Nairobi was eye-opening, humbling, and incredibly meaningful. Meeting the Road to Freedom Scholarship girls and seeing their world firsthand made a lasting impression. I was welcomed into their homes and introduced to their families-an experience made possible by the trusted relationships RFS has built on the ground.
The safari is unforgettable. Seeing lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, and more in their natural habitat is beyond words. Don’t hesitate—go now. You won’t regret a single moment in Kenya.
What’s it really like?
We get that question a lot. So we made a video! Join us for a few minutes on safari, in the classroom, and at a picnic in the park. You’ll get a feel for the energy, the connection, and the heart behind this trip.
Let This Be the Year You Say Yes
This is more than a trip—it’s a front-row seat to hope, resilience, and the power of education. You’ll witness lives being transformed and become part of the story yourself. And when you return home, you’ll carry those stories with you, ready to share them and inspire others.
